What is an electric fireplace insert?
A freestanding electric insert is an excellent choice if you want to revive your old fireplace. By installing a freestanding electric insert, you can create a warm and cozy atmosphere in your living room with its realistic flame effect, while avoiding the hassle of sourcing and storing wood, as well as cleaning and maintaining the fireplace.
Freestanding electric inserts are available with two different technologies. Some operate entirely on electricity, while others use a combination of water and electricity. Purely electric models emit a certain amount of heat, similar to an electric radiator.
However, there are also types of electric inserts based on hybrid technology, sometimes called hybrid fireplace, water vapor fireplace, or Opti-Myst fireplace. All these terms refer to the same technology, which uses a blend of water and electricity. Flames are created by heating water in a container, then illuminating the water vapor with LED lights. This process produces very realistic flames and the illusion of smoke, without emitting smoke or posing a risk of burns.
