Questions and answers on Opti-myst fireplaces

We receive several questions concerning our environment-friendly opti-myst fireplaces, as they are relatively new on the market. An opti-myst fireplace requires no ventilation or exhaust, as the flame is formed by water vapor and LED light. An Opti-myst fireplace only requires a connection to a standard electrical outlet. The fireplace is thus not flammable.

Installation of opti-myst fireplaces

"Can an Opti-myst fireplace be installed outside?", "Can I mount a television over a hybrid fireplace?" are examples of questions we often see.

An Opti-myst fireplace can easily be built into a wall and thus also under a television, with a distance between the top of the fireplace and to the bottom of the television of 1 meter. However, no long-term tests have been conducted on this.

In relation to installing a hybrid fireplace / opti-myst fireplace outside, this is not something we recommend as Dimplex, which is a major manufacturer of steam fireplaces, is not certified for outdoor use.

For the installation of an opti-myst fireplace with an automatic water supply, a copper installation is also not required. However, you can choose to purchase a plumbing set which will require a connection point that will be a copper pipe. However, it is up to you and your plumbers whether you want to use it or not.

How are opti-myst fireplaces cleaned and maintained?

To clean the fireplace, use a damp and soft cloth. Avoid using rough sponges or anything else that can scrape and damage the surface. If you have an opti-myst fireplace for an automatic water connection, we recommend that the plumbing units be cleaned with soapy water as needed. Here, the spring in the filling cap can be removed by gently pressing down and then cleaning the tank to increase efficiency.

It is also a good idea to check the air filters as needed, where discoloration can be found. In the case of discoloration, it can be carefully removed by cleaning it.

Can you get some decoration for opti-myst fireplaces?

The actual water vapor from the flames does not damage its surrounding and it is, therefore, also possible to decorate these fireplaces. However, we have some recommendations about what decoration can be used.

  • Avoid small objects or dirt from decoration from falling into the fireplace tub
  • The actual opening where the flame comes up must always be kept free
  • The total weight of decoration should not exceed 5 kg as it can damage the fireplace
  • In general, care should be taken that the decoration does not damage the fireplace

Concerning using scents and oils in the fireplace, it is not something we recommend that you do, as it can damage the fireplace.

In fireplaces where it is possible to connect sound, nothing must be placed in front of the Bluetooth receiver, as it will then be able to lose the signal. For these fireplaces, the use of stone, concrete, or metal is not recommended, as it will block the signal. You can read on the individual products about whether this is possible.

Features of opti-myst fireplaces

In opti-myst fireplaces, it is possible to choose the intensity of the flame from 30% to 100%. Here there is an increase in each step by 10%, which means that there are a total of 7 setting options. However, it is not possible to change the color of the flame as it is not included in the settings.

In some hybrid fireplaces, it is possible to connect sound. If this is possible, it is stated in the product description on the individual product.

What is the difference between an Opti-myst fireplace and an electric fireplace?

Electric fireplaces and Opti-myst fireplaces are very similar to each other and run on electricity. The difference is that an Opti-myst fireplace forms flames out of water vapor and LED light, whereas an electric fireplace forms the flames through LED light and mirror reflections.

Connecting several opti-myst fireplaces together

If you have several Opti-myst fireplaces from Dimplex, it is possible to operate them all via the same remote control, so you can quickly switch them off or on all at once.
